Drive Better Response for Your B2C Customers: Insight Into New Lists Filled With Great Consumers
Q&A Summary:
Q: With so much talk about teachers being underpaid, I'm curious how you categorize them at above-average income. Is that assuming an above-average-earning spouse? Thanks.
A: When you hear talk about teachers being underpaid, there are a couple of ways to look at teachers’ pay relative to the overall U.S. consumer audience. Many who say that teachers are underpaid are saying that relative to the expectations we put on teachers as far as their performance, as well as the amount of education we expect our teachers to have. One of the latest surveys we had seen for the average teacher salary in Connecticut was at about $55K. One has to remember that most teachers are in dual-income families, and our comparison of how teachers compare to the general U.S. population was based on total household income. Another important item to consider is that some teachers hold second jobs to supplement their incomes.

Q: Are these compiled names or response names?
A: MDR has a combination of compiled names and response names that we obtain from relationships we have with some of our customers.
Q: For a consumer mailer, do you suggest mailing to them at their school address or at-home address?
A: This depends on a variety of factors.
- Timing — You wouldn’t want to mail to teachers at their school address when they are on summer vacation. Administrators might be okay at school in the summer because they tend to be there year-round.
- Product/Offer — If the consumer offer is something that could be seen as somehow related to their jobs (such as a book offer), it would be a wise idea to test at both school and at home. If it is strictly a personal consumer item offer unrelated to their profession, mailing to their home address would probably be your best bet. Some consumer mailers also have had success mailing to teachers’ lounges.
